Cultivating, harvesting, living: mindful growers in dialogue with Hermann Hesse

Saturday, 4 October 2025 · 17.00, Masseria Il Gemmo, Breganzona

The legendary hexameter poem Hours in the Garden (1935), along with other writings by Hesse, reveals the author’s deep inclination to find relief and joy in time spent among flowers and plants, herbs and vegetables. In this world, the cycle of life and death, the rhythm of the seasons, and the bond between the earth and its fruits in their eternal succession become tangible and eloquent—an invitation to observation and contemplation.

During this talk, set against the rural backdrop of Masseria Il Gemmo, we will meet individuals who live in close connection with nature or who have embraced the challenge of cultivating and preserving it in mindful, meaningful ways. The conversation will be interwoven with readings from Hesse’s works, especially those reflecting on his time in the garden.

At the end of the event, Il Gemmo will kindly offer an aperitif with a tasting of their organic products, available for purchase on site. A guided tour of the organic garden will also be available for those interested.

Moderated by Daniela Bruderer, in Italian.
