Prof. Dr. Karl-Josef Kuschel presents a selection of poems written by 20th-century women authors
Friday 2 October 2026 · 17.30 · Sala Boccadoro, Via dei Somazzi 4, Montagnola ♿
As every autumn, the Museo Hermann Hesse Montagnola hosts a German-language lecture devoted to themes of literature, art, and culture connected with the world of Hermann Hesse.
This year, the Tübingen-based scholar and theologian Karl-Josef Kuschel, president of the Internationale Hermann Hesse Gesellschaft, focuses his talk on the poetry of Else Lasker-Schüler (1869–1945), Hilde Domin (1909–2006), and Marie Luise Kaschnitz (1901–1974). His presentation highlights distinct poetic voices united by experiences of exile, loss, and the search for a language capable of shaping identity and memory. The three poets embody different poetic responses to the historical and biographical ruptures of their time, offering original perspectives on the relationship between writing, cultural belonging, and ethical responsibility. The topic resonates meaningfully with the exhibition dedicated to Isa Hesse-Rabinovitch, broadening reflection on the role of women – and particularly Jewish women – within the cultural and literary landscape of the twentieth century. The event will conclude with a convivial aperitif.
